I stand with Planned Parenthood

"We have to raise a massive outcry against this dangerous attack on women's health and Planned Parenthood. Tell everyone you know to stand with you and stand with Planned Parenthood. Start by posting this message on Facebook, or send it in an e-mail to your friends and family:
Did you hear? The House voted to bar Planned Parenthood from federal funding. They cut funding for HIV tests, cancer screenings, birth control, and more, putting millions of women and families at risk. We can't let it go unanswered. It's time for you and me to stand with Planned Parenthood. Sign the open letter to the reps who voted for this bill — and to the senators who still have a chance to stop it.

This fight will continue as our legislators return to their home districts, and when the vote heads to the U.S. Senate. Your voice, your strength, and your unwavering support are absolutely critical, now and in the weeks ahead. Thank you for standing with us.

These attacks on Planned Parenthood are a drain on our resources at a time when we have to work harder than ever to protect and promote women's health. Please consider making a gift to Planned Parenthood Federation of America to help us through this difficult time. Thank you for your steadfast support."

On Life.. From a Friend

Kyle Miller just said the most genius thing to me:

"Well, life is never smooth sailing. There's always stuff you don't know about, can't predict the future.

But you can't go to San Fran and be sad all week because you know you're going to leave at the end. You have to enjoy the ride as it happens.

So you open the sunroof on your life Volvo and sing some fucking Girl Talk."

Boom.

A little holiday cheer

Huh! Well, so I still have a Posterous account. And it looks like things have changed since I've been here!

Congrats to http://garry.posterous.com/  on the growing community and the new iPhone app - I can't wait to download it.

So, it's the holidays, isn't it? I hope you get to see lots of people you want to see and enjoy the hell out of it.

Now...on to the important stuff. Presents!
I usually go wild buying people stuff for Christmas because I really love to make my closest pals smile. And sometimes, stuff makes them smile.

Most people have enough stuff as it is, so this year I don't want to get too out of control. Plus, didn't something happen to the economy? So...while finding fun or meaningful things for my friends/fam, I came up with a few other ideas that you all might use:

- A donation in your pal's name to their favorite charity organization (some of mine are: Freestore Foodbank, United Way of Greater CincinnatiRonald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati, Children's Miracle Network)

- Help a 5-year-old pay for chemo by buying a super sweet drawing

- A print of a photo you took yourself

- Something to make their mobile pictures a little more fun and their Instagram a little more exciting

- A digital album that might change their lives

- Something to get their ass in gear and get a little healthier

- A good deal

- Cute, handmade/collected stuff

- Something to drink from a local shop

Happy holidays,
Kasey

Disclaimer: Some of the charities are customers of one of the companies I work for. That being said, I whole heartedly and individually support all of the amazing things they do and so should you. Because they are changing lives, not because they're our customers. Is that cool with you?

Girl Talk

Gt_feed-the-animals

I just downloaded Feed the Animals. I may be a little behind but I cannot get over how fucking awesome this album is! I never thought I'd care to hear stuff like Soulja Boy, Sinead O'Connor, Blackstreet, Bob Dylan and Quad City DJ's (yeah..) ever again but the way this thing is mixed is insane. So insane that he makes Ace of Base and Hot Stepper sound good - think about that for a second.

Also - let's talk about how cool it is that you can "pay as you please" and download the entire album as separate tracks, one continuous track and get the physical cd (you pay through PayPal). You can even choose your preferred format - MP3 or FLAC. Why aren't more artists doing this?

He is coming to Cincinnati on November 9 at Bogart's and I am so there. The guy over at Status Ain't Hood said, "People actually dance at Girl Talk shows. I'm not quite sure how this happens, but it does," - which makes me really excited to go see him live. Plus, tickets are only $13.50 and you can't beat that.

Now walk it out...

So, I attended a Jackyl concert. Yeah, you heard me right. Jackyl.

I took some pretty fun photos and they are now featured on Cincinnati's 96 Rock's website (www.purerock965.com), which I gotta say - is pretty freakin' sweet. Thanks to Dolphin for getting my photos posted and for the props.

You can view a couple below, but check out my Flickr for a bunch more.

Also - thank you to Larry & Michelle Cornett of Aces & Eights Harley Davidson for putting on a great show and for letting me roam around the stage.

Other stuffs:
  • Classes start for me tomorrow night at UC (University of Cincinnati)
  • Chicago for a wedding this weekend

That's all for now.

Afraid of Commitment

So, as I was setting up my Posterous account - I said to myself that I would commit to some kind of regularly scheduled posterousing. In reality, I have mostly been neglecting my social activity (on the internet).

Here's why I haven't been updating:

  • I sometimes feel like posting stuff that may not be "sensitive" to readers
  • I bought a new bike - check it! (below)
  • I'm tired
  • I like making excuses

So here's the new ride:

Photo

I rode approximately two miles tonight after work and got caught in the rain. While riding up a hill.

Other shenanigans:

A day or so ago, some unnamed family members set fire to half a forest and the neighbors called the fire department. When the fire truck pulled up, one unnamed family member just waved her arm and smiled and the firemen laughed and pulled away.

Sadly, this lovely lady pictured below almost got busted as she was minding her own business.

Social Addiction

Social networking is frustrating. I decided to try out Posterous due to a suggestion on FriendFeed by Mike Arrington (TechCrunch). After signing up, I started thinking what I was going to post about and if it should be anything specific. That made me start thinking about how many social networks I've signed up for in the last month. Hell, even the last two weeks. It makes me kind of embarassed to think about it. Why do I keep signing up for these things? Why does anyone? Whatever the reasons, I feel like I can't help it! I want to sign up for nearly everything and at least check it out.  But WHY?

It has only recently become very obvious  to me that the "tech" community has become addicted to being social. We sign up for a thousand different social network, constantly on the hunt for something better. Something that will help us be more social and improve our lives in some way.

The questions I keep asking myself are:

1. Will it ever end? Is there a social network out there that is currently, or will be some day, perfect? One that serves all our needs? What ARE our needs?
2. Do social networks make our lives better? Or are they a hinderance to face-to-face interaction?

Hit me up in the comments and let me know what you think.
